Nimisha Sharma

Nimisha Sharma was born in Mumbai, India. She studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai, before furthering her studies abroad at the New York University, where she studied graphics. In 1980, she received an award at the Annual Exhibition held at NYU, this soon followed by another award in 1983, awarded to her by the United Overseas Bank Group for the painting of the year. Also in that year, Sharma was invited to come and teach at the National University of Singapore.

Sharma’s works are abstract and minimal in nature. Her works are often monotone and subdued as she allows the shapes and designs she creates to take centre stage. Though most often found working with acrylic on canvas, Sharma also incorporates other materials such as silver foil in her work.

Sharma has participated in different festivals around the world, including the Eastern Festival held in Detroit, USA. She has held over seven solo exhibitions and has participated her works in many group exhibitions. Her paintings are displayed in public and private collections around the world.
